Chief Executive Officer
John Cronan, Ph.D.; Co-Founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Magellan has been involved in marine natural product chemistry for the past twenty years. He holds a Ph.D. in Natural Products Chemistry from Montana State University, and an M.S. degree in Organic Chemistry from Louisiana State University. Prior to co-founding Magellan, Dr. Cronan served as manager of the Mass Spectroscopy Laboratory while at LSU, and also as manager of the NMR facility at the University of Maryland 's Center of Marine Biotechnology. He has published works in the area of marine microbial/invertebrate symbionts in addition to his research in natural product chemistry from marine micro- and macro-organisms. Dr. Cronan is the principal investigator on several patent classes, and has extensive experience in organic synthesis, structural elucidation and molecular modeling (QSAR).
IAN W. COTTRELL, PH.D.
Vice-President, Business Development
Ian W. Cottrell, Ph.D.; Vice-President of Business Development at Magellan has been involved for forty years with specialty chemicals including those produced by bacteria. Dr. Cottrell holds a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland and a B.Sc. from the same university. Dr. Cottrell has held several senior positions in R&D and business management in specialty chemical and consumer products companies in the U.S. and Europe. He has extensive experience in the discovery and application of technology to create business success. Dr. Cottrell has over fifty patents and twenty-five publications in the areas of natural and synthetic polymers, and with the animal health care industry (i.e. flea & tick products and anthelmintics for canines and felines).
